Rayson HydroShield WE45

Rayson HydroShield WE45 is a two-component, water-based epoxy primer-and-topcoat system for concrete, screed, asphalt and metal — covering duties from warehouse floors to rubbish chute coatings.

Best for

Best for coloured seal coats in normal to medium-heavy service where a water-based, self-priming system must also handle demanding details like rubbish chutes.

Overview

HydroShield WE45 extends the water-based HydroShield seal-coat approach across a wider set of duties: warehouse flooring, production floors, car park decks and rubbish chute coatings. Like WE40, it is self-priming — the first coat primes, the following coats finish — so one product covers the whole build-up.

The water-dilutable epoxy formulation delivers good hiding power, high mechanical properties and good anti-corrosive resistance. Adhesion to mechanically prepared substrates is excellent, with pull-off failure occurring in the concrete rather than the coating, and application is possible on dry or damp surfaces.

Water-based chemistry keeps odour down and makes the product suitable for unventilated areas — enclosed chutes, risers and basement levels included.

Recommended uses

  • Coloured seal coats on cementitious screeds
  • Warehouse flooring and production floors in normal to medium-heavy exposure
  • Rubbish chute coatings
  • Car park deck coatings
  • Self-priming primer-and-topcoat systems on new and existing concrete

Suitable substrates

  • New and existing concrete (minimum 28 days old, moisture content below 5%)
  • Cementitious screeds, including highly absorbent substrates
  • Asphalt
  • Metal (mechanically prepared)
  • Dry or damp surfaces (no standing water)

Key benefits

  • Self-priming primer-and-topcoat in one product
  • Handles demanding details including rubbish chute coatings
  • Water-based and suitable for unventilated areas
  • Applies to dry or damp surfaces with excellent adhesion

System position: Standalone coating

A standalone product performs its job in a single application rather than as one layer of a multi-coat system.

Application method

  • Roller
  • Brush
  • Airless spray

Technical information

The figures below are a guide for planning. Site conditions and workmanship affect results — confirm the details for your project with our technical team.

Coverage 6–8 m² per kg per coat, varying with prepared substrate condition
Mixing Two pre-weighed parts, mix ratio 4:1 (A:B) by weight; mix mechanically for at least 2–3 minutes; pot life up to 30 minutes at 30 °C
Drying & curing Final cure 7 days
Pack sizes Part A 4 kg / Part B 1 kg, or Part A 16 kg / Part B 4 kg per set

Limitations

  • Minimum substrate temperature 5 °C; curing between +10 °C and +35 °C; concrete moisture content maximum 5%
  • Mixed material must be used within its pot life; cures faster in hot weather and in large batches
  • A thin-film seal coat — not intended for heavy impact or thick-build duties
  • Epoxy chemistry — will yellow and chalk under exterior UV exposure

Not suitable for

  • Heavy impact and intensive forklift zones needing thick-build systems
  • Exterior UV-exposed surfaces without a UV-stable topcoat
  • Substrates with standing water or moisture above 5%

Recommended systems

Self-priming seal coat system

  1. Mechanically prepare and vacuum the substrate
  2. Apply a first coat of Rayson HydroShield WE45 as the primer
  3. Apply a second coat of Rayson HydroShield WE45 as the coloured topcoat

Frequently asked questions

What makes WE45 suitable for rubbish chutes?

It is a self-priming, water-based coating that can be applied in enclosed, unventilated spaces and produces a sealed, cleanable surface — the combination chute refurbishment needs.

Does it need a separate primer?

No — the first coat serves as the primer on mechanically prepared substrates. Very porous surfaces may warrant an extra coat.

Can WE45 go onto damp concrete?

Yes, dry or damp surfaces are acceptable within a 5% substrate moisture limit and with no standing water.

Is it strong enough for forklift areas?

It is rated for normal to medium-heavy exposure. For intensive forklift traffic or impact zones, step up to LevelShield SL120 or a PurScreed screed — our technical team can advise.

How does it behave outdoors?

As an epoxy it will yellow under UV. On exposed decks, overcoat with a UV-stable UraForce polyurethane finish.
