Rayson PatchBond TX80

Rayson PatchBond TX80 is a two-component, solvent-free thixotropic epoxy adhesive and repair compound with exceptional sag resistance that bonds and fills on vertical, overhead and even mat-damp concrete surfaces.

Best for

Best for non-sag repairs, crack and joint filling, and structural bonding on vertical and overhead surfaces — including damp concrete.

Overview

PatchBond TX80 is the compound for the repairs gravity makes difficult. Its thixotropic body holds at 13–15 mm on vertical surfaces without sagging, so coving, joint arrises, overhead patches and bonded fixings can be built in place rather than formed against shutters.

It bonds to an unusually wide range of substrates — concrete (including wet, mat-damp surfaces), fibre cement, natural stone, ceramics, wood, polyester, epoxy, glass, brick and masonry — and hardens without shrinkage into a film impermeable to liquids and water vapour. Quartz-filled testing records tensile strength to concrete up to 15 N/mm² and flexural strength up to 35 N/mm², with excellent impact and good chemical resistance.

Typical duties run from filling voids, cracks and joints to bonding metal profiles onto vertical surfaces, where bonded elements are propped for at least 12 hours while the epoxy grabs.

Recommended uses

  • Filling voids, cracks and joints in concrete
  • Bonding metal profiles and fixtures onto vertical surfaces
  • Repairs to fibre cement, stone, ceramics, wood, brick and masonry
  • Non-sag repair mortar on vertical and overhead faces

Suitable substrates

  • Concrete, including wet or mat-damp surfaces (no standing water)
  • Fibre cement, hard natural stone and ceramics
  • Wood, polyester, epoxy and glass
  • Bricks, mortar and masonry

Key benefits

  • Exceptional sag resistance — holds 13–15 mm on vertical surfaces
  • Moisture-tolerant — bonds to mat-damp concrete
  • Hardens without shrinkage; impermeable to liquids and water vapour
  • High bond strength across concrete, brick, masonry and more

System position: Standalone coating

A standalone product performs its job in a single application rather than as one layer of a multi-coat system.

Application method

  • Spatula
  • Trowel or notched trowel
  • Gloved hand application

Technical information

The figures below are a guide for planning. Site conditions and workmanship affect results — confirm the details for your project with our technical team.

Coverage Approximately up to 1.90 kg/m² per mm of thickness (theoretical, subject to conditions and porosity)
Mixing Two pre-weighed parts, mix ratio 2:1 (A:B) by weight; mix with a low-speed drill and paddle for at least 3–5 minutes, avoiding aeration; pot life up to 30 minutes at 28 °C
Drying & curing Refer to TDS / contact technical team
Pack sizes Part A 4 or 8 kg / Part B 2 or 4 kg per set

Limitations

  • Minimum substrate temperature 10 °C; curing between +10 °C and +30 °C
  • Layer thickness when bonding vertical metal profiles must not exceed 5 mm
  • Bonded vertical elements must be propped for at least 12 hours
  • Substrate may be mat-damp but must have no standing water

Not suitable for

  • Large horizontal floor reinstatement — Rayson MortarBond EM90 is the better tool
  • Substrates with standing water or active water ingress
  • Applications below 10 °C substrate temperature
  • Movement joints requiring a flexible sealant — cured epoxy is rigid

Recommended systems

Crack and joint repair before coating

  1. Mechanically prepare the repair area and vacuum clean
  2. Work Rayson PatchBond TX80 well into the substrate and fill flush
  3. Overcoat with the specified Rayson floor system once cured

Vertical bonding of fixtures

  1. Prepare both bonding faces and apply Rayson PatchBond TX80 at up to 5 mm thickness
  2. Position the element and prop for at least 12 hours

Frequently asked questions

Will it sag on a wall or ceiling?

No — the thixotropic body holds around 13–15 mm on vertical faces at 28 °C without slumping, which is what it is designed for.

Can it be applied to damp concrete?

Yes, to mat-damp concrete with no standing water — the formulation is moisture-tolerant and builds durable bonds on wet substrates.

Why must mixing avoid aeration?

Whipped-in air weakens the compound and leaves voids in the repair. Mix with a low-speed drill for 3–5 minutes rather than a fast one.

How long must bonded fixtures be supported?

Prop vertical bonded elements for at least 12 hours while the epoxy develops handling strength.

When has it fully cured?

Test values reference 7-day curing; check the full cure schedule with our technical team for load-critical work.

TX80 or EM90 — which repair product do I need?

TX80 for vertical, overhead, damp or bonding work where sag resistance matters; EM90 for horizontal floor patches needing maximum compressive strength under traffic.
