Rayson MortarBond EM90

Rayson MortarBond EM90 is a three-pack, solvent-free epoxy mortar — resin, hardener and graded aggregate — that reinstates concrete floors with a non-shrink, highly abrasion-resistant repair.

Best for

Best for trowel-applied repair and reinstatement of damaged concrete floors before coating, and for building durable epoxy mortar patches in trafficked areas.

Overview

MortarBond EM90 rebuilds damaged concrete with epoxy strength. The three components — resin, hardener and graded aggregate — combine into a trowelable mortar that hardens without shrinkage to a compressive strength of 80 N/mm² at 7 days, well above the concrete around it.

The cured mortar is highly durable and tough, with high abrasion resistance, good adhesion and good resistance to chemicals and solvents — so patches, joint arrises and worn areas repaired with EM90 stay put under forklift traffic rather than breaking out again.

It is applied by steel trowel over a compatible epoxy primer and is typically overcoated by the floor system, keeping repairs invisible inside the finished floor.

Recommended uses

  • Repairing spalls, potholes and worn areas in concrete floors
  • Reinstating joint edges and arrises before coating
  • Forming durable epoxy mortar patches in trafficked areas

Suitable substrates

  • Concrete floors, mechanically prepared and primed with a compatible epoxy primer

Key benefits

  • Non-shrink repair with compressive strength of 80 N/mm² at 7 days
  • Tough, highly abrasion-resistant — survives forklift traffic
  • Good resistance to chemicals and solvents
  • Solvent-free, three-pack system with good adhesion

System position: Body coat

A body coat builds the main thickness and mechanical performance of the floor, applied over a primer and usually sealed with a finish.

Application method

  • Steel trowel

Technical information

The figures below are a guide for planning. Site conditions and workmanship affect results — confirm the details for your project with our technical team.

Coverage Refer to TDS / contact technical team
Mixing Mix ratio Part A : Part B : Part C = 2 : 1 : 30 by kg; no thinner required; pot life 45 minutes at 30 °C
Drying & curing Touch dry 4 hours at 30 °C; hard dry 16 hours; full cure 7 days
Pack sizes 33 kg set (Part A 2 kg resin, Part B 1 kg hardener and Part C 30 kg aggregate)

Limitations

  • Mixed mortar must be placed within its 45-minute pot life at 30 °C
  • Requires a compatible epoxy primer for reliable adhesion
  • Full mechanical and chemical service only after 7-day cure
  • Epoxy chemistry — repairs left uncoated outdoors will yellow

Not suitable for

  • Vertical or overhead repairs — use Rayson PatchBond TX80 thixotropic compound
  • Large-area screeding duties — it is a repair mortar
  • Uncoated exterior exposure where colour stability matters

Recommended systems

Floor repair and recoat

  1. Cut back and mechanically prepare the damaged area
  2. Prime with Rayson PrimeBond E20 (primer selection to be confirmed by the Rayson technical team)
  3. Trowel in Rayson MortarBond EM90 and cure before overcoating with the floor system

Frequently asked questions

How strong is the cured mortar?

Compressive strength reaches 80 N/mm² at 7 days — several times stronger than typical floor slab concrete.

Does it shrink as it cures?

No — the epoxy binder hardens without shrinkage, so patches stay tight to their edges instead of debonding.

Does the repair need a primer?

Yes, a compatible epoxy primer applied to the prepared repair area. Rayson recommends PrimeBond E20, with final system pairing to be confirmed by our technical team.

How soon can the repair take traffic?

Indicatively hard dry in 16 hours at 30 °C, with full cure and chemical resistance at 7 days. For heavy loading, confirm timing with our technical team.

Can it be feather-edged?

Epoxy mortars perform best at a defined minimum thickness with cut edges rather than feathering. Square-cut the repair perimeter for a durable result.
