Overview
GripSafe AP12 puts the anti-slip aggregate in the can. Instead of broadcasting loose grit into a wet primer, the 0.5–1.5 mm silicate quartz is factory-blended into a self-crosslinking acrylic binder — so every pass lays down a consistent, repeatable texture. It doubles as primer and filler, keying subsequent finish coats.
The cured coat is tough: high abrasion resistance, excellent water resistance, good weather resistance and excellent adhesion to concrete and masonry. It is fast-drying (touch dry in 30–60 minutes at 25 °C), non-yellowing, suitable for interior and exterior use, and low in VOCs at under 50 g/litre.
It applies to asphalt, grey concrete, stone, unglazed tiles and pavers, covering duties from pedestrian walkways and ramps to playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts and cycling paths.
Recommended uses
- Pedestrian walkways and ramps
- Industrial floors requiring slip resistance
- Playgrounds, basketball courts and tennis courts
- Cycling pathways
Suitable substrates
- Grey concrete
- Asphalt surfaces
- Hard surfaces such as stone
- Unglazed tiles and pavers
Key benefits
- Factory-blended 0.5–1.5 mm quartz gives consistent anti-slip texture
- One pack, ready to use — no broadcasting step
- Fast-drying with high abrasion and excellent water resistance
- Non-yellowing, interior and exterior; VOC under 50 g/litre
System position: Primer
A primer is the first coat. It seals and strengthens the surface and creates the bond the rest of the system relies on. It is not a wearing surface on its own.
Application method
- Trowel or squeegee
- Brush for stripe-coating edges
Technical information
The figures below are a guide for planning. Site conditions and workmanship
affect results — confirm the details for your project with our technical team.
| Coverage | Theoretical 5–8 m² per litre, subject to substrate porosity and application conditions |
| Mixing | Single component, ready to use; condition material to 15–25 °C before use |
| Drying & curing | Touch dry 30–60 minutes at 25 °C; recoat after 2–4 hours; full cure 1 day |
| Pack sizes | 22 L plastic pail |
Limitations
- Ambient and surface temperature above 10 °C, and at least 5 °C above the dew point
- Surface must be dry, clean and free of loose paint, dust, grease, oil, wax and biological growth
- Neutral colour only — pair with a coloured finish coat where colour is required
- Texture grade is fixed by the factory aggregate blend
Not suitable for
- Smooth decorative finishes — the aggregate texture is the point
- Glazed tiles or non-porous glossy surfaces without specialist preparation
- Heavy forklift traffic areas — use an epoxy or PU-cement system
- Application below 10 °C or onto damp, contaminated surfaces
Recommended systems
Anti-slip walkway or ramp
- Clean, repair and level the surface; stripe-coat edges by brush
- Apply Rayson GripSafe AP12 across the area; overcoat dull patches with a further coat
- Finish with Rayson UraForce HY15 or CourtFlex AC25 in the selected colour
Frequently asked questions
How does GripSafe AP12 differ from broadcasting aggregate?
The quartz is pre-blended into the product, so texture is uniform with no broadcasting, sweeping or wastage — and no thin spots where the grit missed.
Does it need a topcoat?
It works as a stand-alone anti-slip coat in its neutral colour; where colour or extra cleanability is wanted, overcoat with UraForce HY15 or CourtFlex AC25.
How aggressive is the texture?
The aggregate is graded 0.5–1.5 mm — a firm pedestrian anti-slip profile. If you need a specific measured slip rating for compliance, confirm the requirement with our technical team.
Can it go on asphalt?
Yes — asphalt is a listed substrate alongside concrete, stone, unglazed tiles and pavers.
How soon can it be recoated or walked on?
Indicatively touch dry in 30–60 minutes, recoatable in 2–4 hours and fully cured in a day at 25 °C.
